Answer time!
- A would be the first entry (with the definite article A listed as its word) and AA would be listed as the second (a type of lava). What might the third entry be? > I think AAAAAALMRSTT would be entry 3 – TARAMASALATA. Followed possibly by AAAAABBCDRR (ABRACADABRA).
- What would the first entry under B be? > BBBBBEEHLLUU – HUBBLE-BUBBLE is likely.
- BIT, ALLOY and LORRY are all entries, yet words in themselves – that is, the letters are in alphabetical order. What is the longest such entry you can think of? > My answer to this is BILLOWY. At least, that’s the longest common word I know of. There is a longer one – AEGILOPS, which is a species of grass.
- AEGINLRT would list several words – 5, I think. Can you find them all? > ALERTING, ALTERING, INTEGRAL, RELATING, TRIANGLE. Have I missed any?
- What is the longest entry that wouldn’t repeat any letters? > CGHIOPRTY – COPYRIGHT is one answer. There is another 9-letter word, but it escapes me.
- Difficult one now: what might the last entry in the dictionary be? Be careful with this one! > This is a tough one, but I believe the last entry might be TUX (a word in itself).
