Eating with gallbladder issues
In January 2026, my partner, Faye, was diagnosed with gallbladder issues. With this diagnosis came an imperative to eat in a different way. We were told that many fats (saturated, in particular) were off limits, as was heavily processed foods, alcohol (we didn’t drink anyway), red meats, and, we discovered, some egg-containing dishes. We were fairly healthy eaters anyway, but weren’t beyond the occasional steak or takeaway — that had to stop. I was keen to lose weight, so was happy to join Faye in this new way of eating, and we began to search for recipes which would be friendly toward our diet. I have been a fan of food writer Anna Jones for a number of years, and a lot of her recipes were suitable (or easily adaptable), but when I searched online, particularly for versions of favourite dishes, I came up wanting. I decided that I wanted to do something about that. So, Centred Kitchen became more than just a place to write about recipes I liked, but about providing a resource for anyone in a similar position. Contained in the posts tagged with gallbladder-friendly, are recipes using minimal saturated fats and oils, no heavily processed foods, and, where meat is used, only the white type. As those with gallbladder issues have different tolerances for things, there are times when certain ingredients are given as optional — eggs and chilli are the two main offenders (we eat chilli, but not often eggs). A disclaimer: I’m not a dietician, so don’t view anything here, or in the recipes, as replacing proper medical advice. What I post has worked for us; it might not for you. You know your own body best, so tread carefully — if something doesn’t seem right, don’t go for it.
I’ve tried to test recipes multiple times to get the best version of it, and what is posted here, we have found to be delicious, healthy, filling, and compatible with our eating habits. I don’t claim that everything is original, and where something is taken from another food writer or source, I have credited them (and I would encourage you to buy Anna Jones’s books — as I will do several more times!). We love our food, and have worked hard so that we can eat beautiful meals without having to worry about gallbladder issues; I hope you find pleasure in these recipes too. You can find these recipes scattered throughout the blog as they are posted. Go to the Centred Kitchen tag and find something you like 😊
NB. The very first post with that tag, “Crappy Carbonara” was made before this issue, so isn’t suitable.
