Heart’s Ease

Album: Heart’s Ease

Artist: Shirley Collins

Year: 2020

Genre: Contemporary Folk

Run Time: 43m

Rating: 77.88%

Review: The fact that Shirley Collins made this record at all is somewhat of a miracle. Coaxed out of retirement in 2016 for the recording of Lodestar, Collins continued recording, despite her earlier reluctance. For the most part, a more traditional affair than the aforementioned comeback, the album is the singer / songwriter at her most confident, crooning over guitars and strings — not much variety, but enjoyable, nonetheless. The LP finishes with the morris dance of Orange In Bloom, followed by a four-and-a-half minute track of folk-ambience, underpinned by sounds of nature.
